Ever hear of the Yahoo Directory? In a boiled-down sense, it provides both publicity and an SEO boost from what experts consider a very reliable source. And recent reports indicate that those benefits are starting to come at a very reasonable price.
Let’s start with the basics. The Wikipedia article covering the Yahoo Directory states, “The Yahoo! Directory is a web directory which rivals the Open Directory Project in size. The directory was Yahoo!’s first offering. . . . The Yahoo! Directory offers two options for suggesting websites for possible listing: ‘Standard’, which is free, and a paid submission process that offers expedited review. Payment is required when suggesting a commercial site.”
Only perhaps not. According to a thread on the WebmasterWorld Forum, at least a few people who had been paying for inclusion in the Yahoo directory no longer receive bills, and yet their listings are still active. So if you’ve been forking over cash for inclusion, you might be able to stop without any ill effect.
If you haven’t previously had anything to do with the Yahoo Directory, well, it’s less likely that a fresh submission will get a free pass on the billing front. But now you at least know about a good resource, and if you choose to give it a shot, there’s the possibility you’ll be able to stop paying one day.
Good luck dodging that “no pain, no gain” cliche.
